2025 Reflections on a Year of Showing Up

As the year comes to a close, I’ve been spending some time reflecting on what the last twelve months have really looked like — not just the milestones, but the day-to-day reality behind them.
Balancing a career alongside preparing for Everest has been one of the most stretching periods of my life so far. Not because either is unmanageable on its own, but because doing both properly forces you to be honest about whats possible. Time, energy, focus — you feel the trade-offs quickly, and you can’t ignore them for long.
This year didn’t unfold exactly as planned. There were setbacks. Moments where preparation didn’t lead to the outcome I hoped for. Times when progress felt slower than expected, or when things simply didn’t go my way. Those moments are frustrating, but they’ also show you how you respond when the plan breaks.
One thing I’ve learned — in the mountains and in work — is that showing up still matters. When things go off course, you reassess, adjust, and keep moving. You don’t wait for perfect conditions to return. You honour the commitments you’ve made and trust that consistency will carry you forward, even when momentum feels thin.
That mindset has been central to this year. Not chasing perfect alignment. Not stepping away when things feel uncomfortable or uncertain. Just continuing to do the work, calmly and deliberately.
What stands out most as I reflect, though, is how fortunate I am to be in this position at all. To be able to pursue something as ambitious as Everest while continuing to grow professionally is a privilege — and it doesn’t happen in isolation.
I’ve been incredibly lucky to work in an environment that supports ambition beyond the job description. An environment that recognises people as individuals, values long-term development, and understands that personal goals and professional commitment don’t have to compete with one another. That support has made a real difference this year, and it’s something I’m deeply grateful for.
As I look ahead, there’s a mix of excitement and perspective. I’m about to go after the biggest dream I’ve ever set for myself, and I’m doing so with a clearer understanding of what it takes — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally.
Whatever happens next, I know this much: the preparation, the discipline, the setbacks, and the support have already shaped me. And that, in itself, has made the journey worthwhile.
